RE:GENERATION in TDCJ

We are deeply grateful for the way God has opened the door for re:generation inside TDCJ facilities. What once felt impossible has become a sacred opportunity to witness the transforming power of Christ behind prison walls. God has faithfully provided favor, volunteers, and willing hearts, allowing the incarcerated to experience freedom that chains cannot hold. Through re:generation, lives are being restored, identities are being redeemed, and hope is being reborn—not because of our strength, but because of God’s grace. We are humbled to be used as vessels as He brings healing, accountability, and new life to those seeking Him within TDCJ.

We help ladies who are being released make a plan for transitioning into the free world and to make a defined difference in their life. We make sure they are set up with a healthy support system that will help them stay accountable, encourage them, and be able to mentor them through the navigation of re-entry.

Also, we help them apply for transition homes that have structure and are full of resources that help them with everyday living. These transition homes are a valuable stepping stone for their recovery and for them to make a defined difference in their life.

Collaboration Team

I’m Not Just a Number is deeply honored to collaborate with Watermark Church as we continue expanding discipleship efforts within *Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) prisons. Since 2023, we have been faithfully serving inside the units, facilitating the re:generation program and witnessing God move powerfully through recovery, restoration, and transformed lives. This partnership strengthens the growth and reach of discipleship behind the walls, reminding each participant that they are seen, valued, and never just a number.

Re:generation at Woodman Unit has brought me closer to God and helped me reconnect with who I truly am. It opened my eyes to a whole new meaning of sobriety—not just what it means for me, but what it means for the people around me who love and care about me.

Through this journey, I’ve been given tools to reach out to the family I still have—the ones who want to be part of the new me. I want them to experience and enjoy the person God is shaping me into.

Re:generation showed me that I am not alone. Even while I was incarcerated, I had support—people who loved me, believed in me, and wanted to see me grow. With the help of God and the support surrounding me today, I’ve worked through things I never thought were possible.

Because of God and the tools I’ve been given, I can now say this with confidence: I can do this, and I will not give up. I’m going to keep going no matter what, because I can, and I will make it with God.

Through Regen at woodman unit, Jesus changed me from a girl who was broken, confused, with no sense of identity, and who lived in a constant state of fear, to being a woman changed by grace. A woman who walks in the full knowledge of who I am, because of who He is, who is whole and healthy because He healed my wounds and broke places, and who walks in boldness and the authority I was given when I became a Child of God.

I was blessed and honored to share my testimony at I’m Not Just a Number’s annual fundraiser and to serve others in Abilene.

Being able to tell my story and witness how God is moving through this ministry was a powerful reminder that our testimonies matter and that healing, restoration, and purpose are possible for everyone.

Serving alongside others and seeing lives impacted reaffirmed my heart for this mission; to bring hope, truth, and identity to those who need it most.

I've always known Jesus. Like so many I took my life into my own hands and plans and thought I knew best, I was very wrong. I went to prison, got out, and returned.. I am a 13x convict with a range of crimes from petty theft to possession to manslaughter.

I honestly thought I was beyond help, hope and forgiveness. A flyer went up for the Re:Geneation Program and I knew I was supposed to attend the orientation. I felt God was telling me it was time. Everything about this program spoke volumes to my heart and soul. From the groundwork to the specific weekly verses, from the in-depth, get-to-the-roots-of-my-issues questions to the lessons and group sharing... Then came step work.. I sure had a lot of idols and things I had no idea were real issues in my life. I learned so much about myself, about God's loving kindness and forgiveness that I now love myself too. Inventory was my most favorite part and I continue to apply it to my life so I don't build up resentment in my heart.

The ReGen program brought me into a beautiful relationship with Jesus and it saved my life!

HOW DID WE ACQUIRE THE NAME FOR THE MINISTRY?

The story behind the name of I’m Not Just a Number is deeply personal and impactful. It all began one day while serving at the Woodman Unit. Our team entered a dorm, and a young woman sat at one of the tables. The director of this ministry approached her and asked, “Why haven’t you been attending class?” She hesitated before replying, “Honestly, I was hoping you didn’t recognize me. I thought you just knew me as a number.” That moment marked the birth of our ministry’s name.

How often in life—whether as teens, young adults, or adults—have we felt like just a number? So many of us have carried the weight of unworthiness, believing that our choices, decisions, or the circumstances of life define us.

I’m Not Just a Number exists to challenge that belief. Our mission is to pursue the one among the ninety-nine, showing each individual that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.
